Pre-Operative

Sisu Physiotherapy provides pre-operative rehabilitation for multiple types of elective surgical interventions (meaning you choose to have surgery).  This is usually based on the recommendation of the surgeon or due to a delay in surgical intervention.  This type of rehabilitation is used to provide the best possible outcomes following surgery or to prevent loss of strength and mobility leading up to surgery.

  • Cancer treatment, as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal treatment
  • Total Knee Replacement
  • Total Hip Replacement

Post-Operative

Sisu Physiotherapy will work with your surgeon to provide a seamless transition into post surgical rehabilitation. The surgeon may provide post surgical precautions, guidelines and possibly a protocol.  If a protocol is not provided Sisu will follow a protocol that will be provided to your surgeon. Most orthopedic elective surgeries are same day outpatient or usually overnight for observation, followed by one to two weeks of Home Health prior to outpatient physiotherapy.

Post surgical care may consist of the following:

  • start with wound management
  • progress range of motion
  • restore motor activation
  • start a strengthening program
  • return to functional mobility
